Part of the 16m refurbishment of the Loch Katrine Aqueduct, the SG Bridge inspection team spent a month inspecting 6 bridges along the Katrine Aqueduct, a Victorian megastructure regarded as one of the world’s greatest feats of engineering of its day which has supplied clean drinking water to Greater Glasgow and West Central Scotland for over 160 years.

WORK SCOPE

SG rope access bridge inspectors were tasked with inspection of 6no. Loch Katrine Aqueduct bridges, including accurately reporting on the condition of previously recorded defects, structural dimensions including section sizes sufficient to produce a GA drawing, measure areas of section loss, and record their locations and extent sufficient to allow a numerical assessment of the structure’s load capacity, and record the location, extent and form of any new defects identified during the inspection.
