Forth Road Bridge

Edinburgh, Scotland
A variety of installations and works at height, above and below deck
An ongoing relationship with one of the worlds finest bridges

SG are proud to have worked regularly on the Forth Road Bridge since our establishment in 2008. Using industrial rope access techniques to conduct multiple works at height on projects ranging from the installation of the dropped object canopy, to the installation and commissioning of the dehumidification system, the installation and commissioning of a new acoustic monitoring system, and height safety supervision for the replacement of the truss end links.

Type: Rope Access
DURATION: 13 YEARS
TEAM: UP TO 10 PEOPLE
SAMPLE PROJECT SCOPE ; THE ACOUSTIC MONITORING SYSTEM

Over the course of a year our team of 8no. IRATA qualified rope access technicians worked both above and below bridge deck level to install new coaxial and fibre optic cables and sensors from the main cables, down hanger cables, then below road deck the full length of the bridge to tower junction boxes. Following installation, we conducted inspection and testing of the system prior to successful handover.

SAFETY IN SUSPENSION

The environment presented by a suspension bridge is particularly challenging, frequently requiring work to take place above either water or an active carriageway, where the consequences of falls or objects dropped by those engaged in work at height are potentially catastrophic. We have worked with several contractors and Bridge management, developing safe systems of work and rescue, overseen by our L3 IRATA supervisors, ensuring works proceed safely and efficiently.
