GWO TRAINING COURSES

We offer full suite of GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) – initial entry and refresher, and Advanced Rescue Training (ART) courses, for personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields, and will have their duties in a wind turbine environment.

Our training centre is housed within a beautiful Grade A listed church in Edinburgh, Scotland, providing a uniquely interesting venue to train from, with our Sea Survival training run from nearby Port Edgar Marina offering excellent, safe and realistic sea survival training from a magnificent setting in the Firth of Forth.

Our Training Venue

Our training centre is housed in a magnificent Grade A listed church in Penicuik – Edinburgh, Scotland. State of the art training infrastructure has been designed and built into the lofty heights and interesting internal structures to create a beautiful and uniquely interesting place to train from.

Sea Survival Venue

Our sea survival training is delivered from nearby Port Edgar Marina. With a backdrop of the Forth Bridges, the venue offers a spectacular setting in the Firth of Forth from which to provide excellent, safe, and realistic sea survival training.

GWO Basic Safety Training (BST)

Who is it for?

Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related sectors and whose duties may require access to wind turbine generators (WTGs) or associated infrastructure.

What is the aim of GWO BST?

Training in accordance with the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training Standard provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to support and care for themselves and others working in the wind industry.

Participants will gain an understanding of:

• First Aid
• Working at Height
• Manual Handling
• Fire Awareness
• Sea Survival (offshore personnel)

The training prepares participants to work safely within the wind industry and to respond appropriately during emergency situations.

Prerequisites

Participants must be medically fit and physically capable of completing all practical and theoretical elements of the training.

Validity

GWO BST certification is valid for 24 months.

Refresher training may be completed within the final two months of validity while retaining the original certification expiry date.

GWO BST Modules ;

Working at Height
The aim of this module is to enable participants, through theoretical and practical training, to use basic personal protective equipment, work safely at height and perform basic rescue from height within a wind turbine environment.

Manual Handling
The aim of this module is to encourage positive manual handling and ergonomic behaviours and enable participants to perform manual handling activities safely within the wind industry.

First Aid
The aim of this module is to enable participants, through theoretical and practical training, to recognise signs and symptoms of life-threatening situations and administer safe and effective first aid within a wind turbine environment until the casualty can be handed over to the next level of care.

Fire Awareness
The aim of this module is to enable participants to prevent fires, assess fire situations, support emergency evacuation procedures and, where safe to do so, use basic firefighting equipment to extinguish an initial fire.

Sea Survival
For personnel working offshore.
The aim of this module is to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to travel safely to and from offshore installations and respond appropriately during offshore emergency situations.

This package includes:

Duration: 5 Days

GWO Onshore Basic Safety Training (Initial)

This package includes:

• GWO Working at Height
• GWO Manual Handling
• GWO First Aid
• GWO Fire Awareness

Duration: 4 Days

GWO Offshore Basic Safety Training Refresher

This package includes:

• GWO Working at Height Refresher
• GWO Manual Handling Refresher
• GWO First Aid Refresher
• GWO Fire Awareness Refresher
• GWO Sea Survival Refresher

Duration: 3 Days

GWO Onshore Basic Safety Training Refresher

This package includes:

• GWO Working at Height Refresher
• GWO Manual Handling Refresher
• GWO First Aid Refresher
• GWO Fire Awareness Refresher

Duration: 2 Days

 

GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART)

Who is it for?

Personnel who may be required to participate in, lead or support advanced rescue operations within a wind turbine generator environment.

What is the aim of GWO ART?

Training in accordance with the GWO Advanced Rescue Training Standard provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform advanced rescue operations using industry-standard rescue equipment, methods and techniques that exceed the scope of GWO Basic Safety Training Working at Height.

Prerequisites

Participants shall hold valid GWO Working at Height, Manual Handling and First Aid certification.

Validity

24 months.

Refresher training may be completed within the final two months of validity while retaining the original certification expiry date.

ART Modules

ART-H – Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue
This module develops the skills required to perform advanced rescue operations from the hub, spinner and inside blade areas of a wind turbine.

ART-N – Nacelle, Tower and Basement Rescue
This module develops the skills required to perform advanced rescue operations from the nacelle, tower and basement areas of a wind turbine.

ART Package

This package includes:

• ART-H – Hub, Spinner and Inside Blade Rescue
• ART-N – Nacelle, Tower and Basement Rescue

Duration: 3 Days

ART Refresher Package

This package includes:

• ART-H Refresher
• ART-N Refresher

Duration: 2 Days
